This is the 1st negative review I’ve ever given a game. Ive played many alpha games and I fully expect alpha games to have bugs, and many of them. I played this game for several months, reported many bugs to the developers. Everytime we left the server we would respawn at a new location on the map and lose all of our items. This despite having beds down. Bags fell through floors and were inaccessible. Storage containers were bugged and could not be opened. Devs fixed things here and there, but after several months the game breaking bugs remained so I stopped playing. Now, the devs are reporting our screenshots of bugs as in violation of steams policy, in order to have them removed. The photos we took to help them so they could see the bugs. Huge slap in the face to the community that tried to help them. My support is completely withdrawn. Dont waste your money on this buggy mess.
This game is very fun and is only going to get better over time! The crafting is great and fun. Having the ability to set-up your own password protected server is absolutely amazing! This game is already showing a lot of promise and I am thoroughly impressed with how well the 6 person dev team is doing! If you enjoy survival games and playing with friends and others then this game is for you. The ceiling is very high and I see New Dawn surpassing expectations.
The game is not the only great thing…..the dev team is very active in their discord and very open to suggestions from their player base.
In conclusion, this game is brand new and may have a things to polish, fine tune, and add along the way but the game is very stable and fun at it’s core and has a lot of promise. I suggest grabbing it asap and joining the growing community now as the game continues to grow.
This game is highly recommend based on my personal experiences!
I like what is available in-game so far. Playing as a Native vs. Pirates is a neat idea.
It’s Early Access, it’s plastered all over the place, let that sink in and it’s enjoyable.
Craft a Bow and Arrows, Kill all the Things. Craft chests, Keep all the Things.
Craft Clothes with a Weaver, survive better against bears, wolves and Bigfoot (yep, they’re here).
Updates keep coming. It’s not Zombies, watch some YouTube gameplays and decide for yourself.
I wish I could give this a good review, but I cant. I understand this is Early Release, but after waiting for several updates to try try and try again the same problems persist in coop play. The crafting stations and storage chest lock up , even the door to my hut locks up. suddenly I can no longer see my partner nor the bear that is attacking the camp, as if we are in different servers. The game might be find in single player but coop is a no go! My characters shoes and bag vanish and when the bag goes so does everything that was in it. It seems from the update notes that what they have been working on is adding more content, I simply want it to function. Let me know when the game it playable and I might return later.
Before I start I want you to know that I have played my fair share of survival games: Rust, Mist, 7 Days to Die, Raft, The Forrest to name just a few. Now, I know I only have a short amount of time in this game. In the Cons I will explain why. Despite being EA, this game falls short in some fundamental areas. Let’s start with some Pros.
+Variety of animals and resources in the world is acceptable for an EA game.
+Crafting is limited but substantial enough for an EA game to keep things interesting.
+The graphics are decent for an EA game.
+The world does not feel as empty as some other survival games.
+The enemies aren’t immediately lethal ie. Not one shot and you’re dead. You at least have a chance…
See, I managed to find some positives….
-When you die you respawn in a random place, rather than your base. Once you build a tent you should respawn there.
-No tutorial or help option to show you how things work. Maybe some of these issues I have encountered could have been avoided with some sort of intro.
-There is no story line. Who are these pirates? How did I get here? What is my purpose?
-Bota Bag should be able to collect water. Does not work for me. This is one example of something that should be fairly self-explanatory but the controls are no where near intuitive. You would think you would be able to hold the bag and collect water from a water source then hit the action button to drink it. Nope, does not work. Mine stays at 0/5 no matter what button I press.
-COMBAT: This is by far the worst aspect of this game. The enemies at least have some fluid, focused attacks on you but try hitting them. The stop/start combat feels awkward. You often find yourself swinging your axe to the side of an enemy because the enemy focus button makes you fight side on. There is no fluidity whatsoever. This is the main reason I have not continued to play this game.
One of the fundamentals of any game with enemies is combat. Please give your combat mechanics some thought. Having to hold right click, select a zone (upper body, lower body, middle) then strike is tedious. Why can you not use your mouse to aim, left click to attack normally and right click to power attack. Or perhaps, left click is middle, right click is upper and thumb button is lower. Hold right click to block. You do not need an enemy focus button. This isn’t VATS on Fallout.
Preface: Very early development! I’m giving this game a thumbs up because it has lots of potential. The scenery is nice. the inventory and crafting systems work nicely. Food and water need is balanced. Watch a beginners video in youtube before playing to help you ge started. a few things to know: There is no map that I know of. If you die you come back with started inventory (including food) in one of several spawn points so you could loot your grave. building a bedroll makes you respawn at the same place. The combat system is good but you can be attacked when in your inventory so make sure you are in a teepee or other secure place if alone. You can snipe animals and pirates from outside their aggro range. I will post more as I learn the game
Game is a lot of fun and plays well for early release.. environment sounds are a bit wonky at times.
some things that i’d like to see fixed/tweaked:
bears and wolves make no noise when they charge you from behind and you dont know it till they are already taking a bite of your♥♥♥♥♥♥..
you should be able to attach more than 10 arrows to your bow
english translations need tweaked in some menu items to make it easier to understand.
trees dont respawn right now
food consumption/digestion needs major tweaking
plank burn time in fireplace and furnace’s need major tweaking
need ability to lock doors for huts and crafted buildings
currently crafting the advanced axe and pick axe do nothing
sickle also does nothing once crafted
Would recommend New Dawn! Great game even in the early stages. All games come with there issues reguardless. Thats the purpose of early access game. Personally I think the devs are doing awesome with the game an learning while players learn an trade thoughts an ideas. Overall, If survival-build-craft games are your thing, then New Dawn is a great early access game to try.
I think that this game has a big potential because there is already so much in it but ther are many multiplayer bugs for example: my multipayer world never saves and etc. but still the devs are doing an excellent job:D
A survivial game that is not bad at all. Is it quite enjoyable. Still need some work but I see the potential for a good game here. The game play is rather fluid, combat and survivial aspect still need some improvement but at least is pleasurable. Character.
