Right at the beginning, Robbie finds himself inside a temple and hungry for treasure, Any deed he might accomplish in his journey, will be a byproduct of his quest for gold.
And there you have it, the story, as you are quickly prompt to do some platform jumping!
Before jumping into the gameplay itself, i find it important to note that the level screen is not linear. Instead there are various routes that lead to a boss.
It doesn’t exactly affect anyone who intends to complete the game, since you are free to select past levels.
But it is useful for everyone having a tough time at any particular level.
The game sells itself off as an hardcore experience, that is certainly the case for Hell Mode. It is absolutely relentless.
The normal difficulty, provides short challenges.
Every room shares one main objective. To collect the orb somewhere around the map, the orb´s main function is to open the door in each area, but it can be used to remove illusionary walls for some insanely well hidden secrets.
Most levels are short enough for the player to remember past mistakes, and there is no sense of urgency. just Paying close attention for hidden hazards, and figuring out how to avoid certain traps, is enough, ofcourse mixed with small level of precision and timing.
There is a small variation with a few "running from certain death" levels. Those require some memorization and well timed jumps, but still are relatively short.
Some mechanics included
The ability to throw the glowing spheres.
Ghosts markers for every death. Which in part comes in handy when the trap is slightly concealed, most often just reminds me of my failures
It’s also fairly simple and easy to grasp.
As expected it’s easier played with a controller. Though i have to say, the predefined keys aren’t the greatest choice either for keyboard.
As i previously mentioned it’s not a game that requires fast reflexes, Still i find it preferable to use both hands, by switching the movement keys over to the D-pad (hope that helps, if you find yourself without a controller).
This review was submitted for Gaming Until End, through the generous contribution of HellCow.
After playing for around 1.30hr
Completed around 13 levels . 90 deaths .
What To Expect ? / Pros –
– its one of those puzzle platformers made to make you rage hard , and yes it does its job
– For a game thats in early access and at this price . its really good , I would easily recommend it to anyone like me who loves playing new platformers .
-Levels are designed nicely , I completed around 15 levels with 90 deaths and sometimes it does ♥♥♥♥ with your head when you die so many times in same level the screen turns blue (its an effect that shows players spirit on the places you’ve died throughout the level , yeah pretty ♥♥♥♥ing cool ) .
– Usually games made with unity3d engine dont really look this good , im really impressed with the basic look of this game
Cons : –
keep in mind that this game is still in early access while im writing this review .
– There are some minor bugs here and there . mainly with UI but i didnt see any bugs or glitches in levels yet .
– You might wanna use gamepad instead of keyboard it really makes a difference with a controller . i changed some keys on keyboard its fine for me now after some changes in controls .
Verdict : – if you love platformers just buy it , its coming at a reasonable price . Worth every penny , for a game which is in early access right now its really neat .
Die, die, die and die some more! 😛
Robbie Swifthand is a great game. If you remember yourself playing platform games and spending many hours replaying a level in order to gather all the coins, achieve the perfect time etc, this is the game for you.
It has simple mechanincs and controlls, but the level design makes it difficult to master and very enjoyable. In some levels you’ll find yourself losing over and over again, but frustration will never come, only determination to complete the f****** level.
Don’t let the "Early Access" fools you, the game is extremely polished, with very good graphics and sound design.
Looking forward for future updates by the devs.
First things first, the story:
So you play as a greedy thief who is summoned by a little spirit, it seems like you are a hero but Robbie doesn’t seem to really care about it ‘cus all he wants is the reward. For me this one is really funny, original and true (since i’m a little bit tired of always play the all justice hero.
As you continue with the game more of the story and what is actually going on is being reveled, want some spoilers? Well lets just say in the second world you come across with one more spirit.
Now lets go to the game mechanics/handling:
At first i tried to play with the keyboard why? ‘Cus deep inside i enjoy getting angry! But for real, yes it is possible to play with the keyboard but it makes things difficult, well at least for me it was but i do believe it has to do with what you’re most used to play with, as soon as i played with my controller everything was AWESOME.
In love <3
I suggest you play with your headphones oooonn, in order to cancel any other sounds and be able to focus to the really great sounds and music of this game.
The visuals are more than just pleasing, bright, decorative, love how the grass moves when you run through it, the light reflection on the walls, you know all these little details that secretly satisfies your soul. I found the level design smart ‘cus of the way they cover some traps, it makes you to actually pay attention and look around for ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING (you know keep your brain awake).
Overall it is a game that you will die a lot and it will give you a heavenly satisfaction for beating the levels and be like "in your face! I’m the master of this temple!!" (yeah i yelled that).
I 100% recommend this game, even for the younger audience, why? Cus it will give you that lil extra push to actually think of what you have to do and it will challenge you and that’s more than just good!
Keep up the good job guys!
Now excuse me as i go play the insane mode ‘cus i just want that one achievement uugh!
One of my favourite games right now. Loved it instantly!! The levels are made in such a way that it frustrates you enough to want to keep going!!! Great job guys 😀
Robbie Swifthand is one of the best gaming experiences i have had the last couple of years.
It is is a game about grit and endurance. You keep trying and trying until your performance reaches perfection. Then you get your reward!
The great graphics and sounds will help you get through the pain and make you want to come back for more.
Do yourself a favor and play this game.
It will truly make you a better person 🙂
Having fun with the wonderful graphics and sounds in the early levels so far! Ready for the challenge to ramp up, the game really feels amazing! I literally can’t quit it!
Robbie is a very well-crafted game.
You’ll be torn to pieces, impaled by spikes, hit by rocks and as you feel a hint of safety and "Ohh I pulled this off", you will miserably fail. And it will be your fault, as the game does give you the heads-up you need to react (if you’re good!).
Its aesthetics are also a nice blend of dark, yet smooth and easy-on-the-eyes (and ears). There’s an interesting story that’s gradually unfolding – but it’s not the focus (nor does it have to be, in my opinion).
It deserves the price tag, and definitely recommend it either for you or as a gift to a friend that you wanna punish (and have them thank you at the same time 😉 ).
Really enjoyed the game! a little walkthrough if you guys wanna watch before purchasing https://youtu.be/vapYJxyAu-Y
