About This Game

By word, by book, the tales of the brave and mighty are told in reverie. Every warrior is remembered, his stories spreading like a magician’s flame. But, what happens after the story? Where does the hero go after slaying the dragon, rescuing the damsel and freeing the people from an untold terror? No one really knows what happens to the old and retired soldiers. They listen of course, to the very far fetched stories that are passed down from mouth to mouth. Where? In the very taverns that are bustling with legends and the young at heart.

After years of roaming free, slaying evil and merrymaking in halls of drink, everyone takes an arrow to the knee. They have obligations and duties but most of all, the retired life is boring and redundant. They miss the dangers and wish they were young again. What better way to relive the life than to run a tavern? Travellers and adventurers from all kingdoms, far and wide come aspiring for fame and glory. They tell tales of their adventures, transforming cotton tails to horrendous beasts, morphing storms to witchery! All the danger relived in safety because at the end of the day, the warmth still burns in the fireplace.

Your job is to run the tavern – Dragon’s Hangover. Some will seek drinks and food while some might seek the warmth of a bed. Manage your tavern and be the host that all adventurers admire. Your journey, as the tavern’s keep, begins now.

This game is okay at the surface, but after playing for awhile you run into a ton of annoyances or bugs.

In multiple levels the patrons completely stop going to a certain building (Archer Range, Gym, Tables, etc.), Task toggle for the employee’s doesn’t seem to work – they continue working on a task that I already disabled for them, Janitors stop cleaning up, and some levels just don’t allow you to complete them even if you hit the requirements (Level 9 for me). These issues appear to have been reported over a year ago, but are still present in the game and there is still even no workaround for the bugs.

On top of that, there are a ton of quality of life improvements that can be made. Adding extra tiles to the room without deleting the room, auto-hire employees, cleaner zone restrictions, etc.

This game is super fun, with a hard working hands on developer. I have seen many changes since I bought this game when it first came out. Also, he listen’s to his fan base. You get to open up your own pub, build and design it, name it, open it and watch the profits sore. If you can lol, the missions are not easy. At least for me, but fun and challenging. I have great faith this game will be finished, early access done right.

Imitation is the highest form of compliment.

Well that’s a good thing because this game is Theme Hospital with a new skin. I can’t stress this enough, the game is EXACTLY the same, even down to the diaglogue boxes. I would bet they bought the original code or just took it to create this, it’s not just been copied, it is a skinned version of Theme Hospital.
That being said, Theme Hospital was one of my favourite games ever and i’ve always wanted a modernised version and Tavern Tycoon delivers…almost.

One thing they have changed is the mechanics behind building rooms and placing objects. They should have left it as it was because they’ve broken it. Theme Hospital never felt like a grind because room build and item placement was so simple! But Tavern Tycoon makes a horrible mess of it. No longer can you right click to grab an object, instead you have to click on the tiny reposition box at the botttom, them click on the item, then click move item, it’s a chore, trust me.

The worst thing about this game is if you expand or change a room. You might want to add an exercise mat in the gym or add a toilet in the bathroom as you couldn’t afford it earlier. Well in Theme Hospital you can but here you have to delete the entire contents of the room!!! Not a big deal until you reaslise that instead of placing all your objects in your pocket to drop again, you have to buy them all, again, one at a time. It is a truly horrible and frustrating experience and one that has stopped me playing this game any further.

I also don’t feel that the Tavern model translates very well into the Hospital model. By that I mean in a hospital there is an obvious flow to what people do. Reception>Diagnosis>Treatment.
In Tavern Tycoon it’s more like Reception>Wander about> Grab a drink>Puke up> Work out,>Maybe a sleep> Puke up again> Aimlessly walk around more….Not good.
It doesn’t feel like you can manage the volume of people through strategic planning as the people just mash around any old way. An example of this is I had benches all around my reception to make sure people waited there if receptionist is on a break. But instead of waiting right there they walk all the way to the adjacent building, outside the gym and just sit there instead, miles away from where they want to be. It makes no sense!

I never felt Theme Hospital needed an open or sandbox mode to enjoy it as the campaign was brilliant and so well put together. But Tavern Tycoon desperately needs an open mode because once you couple the horrible grind that is building with the stupid AI into a boring campaign mode you are left with that I want a refund feeling.

The game is good enough though and I have enjoyed certain aspects of it. But if they were going to rip off Theme Hospital like this then they should have just remade Theme Hospital as the graphics, music and environment all looks and sounds great!

I recommend the game at under £10 in it’s current state as you will not likely play it for more than a day or 2. Given some time and adjustments this game could be really good. That’s why i recommend it today, I feel it’s destined for great things. I will keep checking for updates every couple of weeks and will change this review when I see progress made.

What I wanted: Fun, simple, tavern running game.

What I got: A "build an entire town in a building" simulator that’s a functional reskin of Two Points Hospital.

This game is almost exactly the same as "Theme Hospital" which is one of the best games ever and almost 20 years old. Even the room design, number of staff, inspector and the rats are from TH. However, it has not got the same amazing sense of humour (at least not at the time of writing). Also, there are still a lot of unfinished detail (including a pause button). I really hope that when finished, it will live up to its predecessors excellence. So, with a lot of hope, this game is strongly recommended.

This game is very similar to Theme Hospital if you can remember that, the layout of rooms and moving furniture is so easy if’you’ve played this game.

Still EA but has great potential, well worth the money.

I’ve been waiting for a game like this for YEARS.

After reading the entire forum, bug lists and reviews I decided to buy the game. As it is right now, things are slowing starting to worry me. The game is still having many bugs – some really silly ones. The developer will only consider sandbox and won’t comment on this part, so if you’re looking for sandbox, do not buy this yet.

The developer is quite active on the forums – but is in a weird kind of way. Can’t tell if he’s annoyed with critics or not. The sentences is very short and very straight forward. Either he likes your idea or he doesn’t.

There havn’t been an update since I bought the game – though the patchnotes is on the forums, we still havn’t been able to download it yet. Still waiting.

For now, I won’t recommend the game, sorry. That can easily change! 😀 Its a fun game for sure.

I’ve not played this game long but so far I’m liking it. I played Theme Hospital to death as a child so I knew immediately how to play the game but I imagine others might struggle. It took me a while to figure out how to research, I think the tutorial could be better to explain this.

I think this game has massive potential and even as it is it is very playable.

Was excited when I first heard about this game, always wanted a sim game about running a tavern

They have LITERALLY copy and past the EXACT in game mechanics from Two Points Hospital. It’s the same game with a different skin.

You have to manage the style of rooms
staff rooms, staff training room, research rooms, A GYM?!.. A Gym in a tavern?!

You have the same style monthly income reports as Two Points, health inspectors come every now and then like Two Points who will give you the same style of rating. You can also unlock additional buildings just like Two Points.

Hospital sim mechanics do not work in a Tavern sim.

At least come up with your own ideas.

I enjoy Tycoon games alot and this is on my favorite list! The only thing I wish would be different is if there was a "free mode." I am just blowing through this game. I played for 1.7 hours today, and already half way through the missions. If there was a "free mode" rather than campaign, I’d enjoy playing alittle more, like starting off with a small tavern, enough for a kitchen and bar, then expanding the building as it gets more popular.
